The Sea Point Promenade is one of Cape Town's most unique spaces. The paved strip that reaches from the end of Sea Point to Mouille Point allows visitors direct contact with the salty ocean breeze and the majestic grey mountain.

But largely, the people of Cape Town are what make the experience of the Promenade so special. The monthly #Moonlightmass bicycle event started when hundreds of bicyclists took to the Promenade one evening under a full moon. Twice a month during the summer, the dance organization Sun-kissed Salsa held salsa-dancing parties on Sea Point pavilion. To mark the end of Ramadan with the sighting of the new moon, hundreds of Muslims gathered at the Mouille Point Promenade at night with large plates of food to break the fast. The Sea Point promenade is one of those rare city spaces that feels naturally inclusive, where the diverse inhabitants of the city come out to meet, play, and even worship.

After the successful hosting of the World Cup in 2010, a seven phase plan was designed to give the Promenade a much needed makeover. The region of focus is divided seven precincts, each of which corresponds to a different part of the promenade. The image below shows a breakdown of the seven precincts and the upgrades to be made in each.

According to Beverley Schafer, Councillor for Sea Point and Ward 54, the completion of the plan for all seven precincts will take approximately seven years to complete. She states, "The space is already such a special place for so many individuals visiting and living in the area. By 2017, we will have an even more amazing promenade."

In 2012, Phase 1 was initiated with the rehabilitation of the worn sea wall along the stretch of the promenade between Three Anchor Bay and the Mouille Point Lighthouse.

For 2014, the focus will be on Precinct 7 and Precinct 8. The plans for these two precincts can be found below.
