CHICAGO — 100% employee-owned engineering, construction and architecture firm Burns & McDonnell is expanding its support of mission-critical services in the Upper Midwest. The firm has hired three industry leaders in the Chicago office, collectively delivering 46 years of valuable experience and insight.

The firm’s multidisciplinary team delivers complete services for all mission-critical facility types. These varieties include programming, space planning, design and construction services for command headquarters, operations and administrative facilities for commercial business operations, the Department of Defense and other government agencies. With its full suite of integrated services, the Chicago mission critical team will focus heavily on serving global technology companies with hyperscale data center needs throughout the region.

The recent hires:
William (Bill) Schaumann is an associate electrical engineer with more than 24 years of experience in the design and construction of industrial, mission-critical and telecommunications facilities. Schaumann has led and trained technical engineering teams throughout his career. His background includes new and renovation projects focusing on electrical systems, including low- and medium-voltage (LV/MV) power distribution, power system analysis, uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems, direct current (DC) power systems, wiring, lighting design and relay coordination studies. Bill focuses design efforts to achieve energy efficiency, reliability and flexibility, with an emphasis on emergency/redundant power essential to the function of a critical facility environment. He is a registered professional engineer and received the Charles Steinmetz Award from the Consulting Electrical Engineers (CEE) division of the Electric Association of Chicagoland for Technical Merit, recognizing his work within General Motors’ new $130-million enterprise data center in 2013. Bill is president of the 7x24 Exchange Lake Michigan Region Chapter and an Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer (ATD). Bill earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical and computer engineering with an emphasis on power and energy systems from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Diaa Masoud is an experienced electrical engineer with an extensive background in the design and construction of data centers for leading technology companies. Throughout his career, he has been integral in data center construction projects ranging from $8 million to more than $250 million for clients across the U.S. He is a registered professional engineer in Illinois, Texas and Ohio, and is fluent in English and Arabic. Masoud earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Rishi Gupta is an experienced project manager and associate mechanical engineer with highly competitive engineering and technical leadership skills. With in-depth experience designing and commissioning efficient mechanical systems meeting owner’s budget and operational requirements, he has focused his career on mission-critical projects including new buildouts and major upgrades for Fortune 100 global companies. Gupta is a registered professional engineer. He earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur, India and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago.
